Frobenius & Sons, founded in 1909 by Theodor Frobenius, has built organs ranging in size from 3 stops to 88 stops. As well as many installations in their native Denmark, Frobenius' mechanical action organs can be found in twelve other countries including Japan, Holland, Germany, and the United Kingdom. There are currently four installations in the United States (in Cambridge, MA; in Lake Wales, FL, in Belvedere, CA, and in Saratoga Springs, NY). The firm recently reached a major milestone with the signing of a contract for Opus 1,000 - a two-manual, 20-stop instrument for Canongate Kirk in Scotland. This historic 300 year-old church is the church of Holyrood House and of Edinburgh Castle, and is the Parish Church of Her Majesty the Queen when in residence at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Every Frobenius organ is a unique, hand-crafted work of art. Virtually every component is manufactured in the firm's workshop, including all the pipes - whether metal or wood, flue or reed. To ensure that the tonal character and dynamic are exactly matched to the final acoustical environment every rank is uniquely scaled, and every pipe is voiced individually on site. This is illustrative of the emphasis which is placed on tonal quality. As Theodor's son, Erik, has said "voicing, or sound, is the painting for which all other aspects of the organ are the frame." Frobenius' main workshop is located near Copenhagen, Denmark, with an additional office in Horsens, Denmark. Customers are also served by Representatives in the United Kingdom and the USA.
