mechanical action
This organ is a basically new tracker action instrument designed and built by B. Rule & Co. It incorporates many recycled parts. The keyboards and windchests are from Johnson & Son, Op. 704, 1888, the pipes and case of which disappeared years ago. Much of the pipework, maker unknown, is from an 1858 organ which served two churches in Malden before being broken up for parts. The Johnson chassis and the Malden pipes were provided by the Organ Clearing House. New flue pipes, including those in the case, were made by Paul Byron of York, Maine, while the new pedal 16' Trombone was made in Germany by Roland Killinger's Suddeutsche Orgelpfeifenfabrik. The case was built c. 1865 (?) by John Clisbee & Son of Marlboro, Massachusetts. The hand-painted decorative graining on the case, obscured by layers of darkened varnish, was carefully repaired and restored.

This organ started out as a turn-of-the-century Hall Organ Co. electric-action two-manual instrument for the Andover Theological Seminary, subsequently rebuilt by the Frazee Organ Co. and later moved to South Church and rebuilt again by W. W. Laws. It was then incorporated in a 1959 Andover Organ Co. electric-action rebuild with design work by Charles Fisk and Leo Constantineau. The Bozeman Organ, basically a new organ utilizing many recycled parts, includes much of the fabric and pipework of the old organ, with major additions and revoicing throughout. Reeds and mixtures were added in the manual divisions, and the layout was changed to allow for the new mechanical action and a new keydesk.

Much of the façade of the former large Casavant organ, Op. 1177, 1927, was incorporated into the new case for this organ. The Pedal division was put into two new separate towers on either side of the main case. Existing carving was duplicated in the pipe shades of the pedal towers. The Swell division is located behind the Great.
